Create a striking rustic finish with waney edge larch cladding boards, manufactured from high-quality Douglas Fir / Larch timber. These naturally durable exterior timber boards are ideal for adding character and texture to buildings, offering a perfect balance of traditional charm and contemporary style.
Featuring a natural live edge (waney edge) profile, each board retains the timbers organic shape, giving walls a beautifully irregular, rustic appearance. This makes them ideal for farmhouses, garden buildings, sheds, barns, garages and outbuildings, where a natural, weathered look is desired.
Douglas Fir and Larch are well known for their warm yellow tone, strong grain and excellent natural durability, making them a popular choice for external cladding. The boards are supplied untreated, as larch is naturally resistant to decay; however, for colour retention and extended lifespan, a quality wood treatment such as Osmo exterior stains or oils is recommended.
Some boards may feature waney edges on both sides, enhancing the authentic, natural character of the cladding.

Q1: What is waney edge cladding?
Waney edge cladding (also known as live edge cladding) is timber that retains the natural, uneven edge of the tree. This creates a rustic, natural appearance that is popular for exterior walls, sheds, barns and feature buildings.
Q2: Is larch cladding suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, larch is a naturally durable softwood that performs very well outdoors. It is highly resistant to rot and decay, making it ideal for exterior cladding without the need for pressure treatment.
Q3: Does this cladding need to be treated?
The timber is supplied untreated and can be installed as-is. However, to preserve the golden colour and extend the lifespan, we recommend using a high-quality exterior wood oil or stain such as Osmo wood finishes.
Q4: Will the timber change colour over time?
Yes. Untreated larch will naturally weather to a silver-grey patina when exposed to the elements. This is a normal and desirable characteristic of natural wood.
Q5: Are the board widths consistent?
No. As this is a natural product, widths vary between approximately 125mm and 200mm. This variation enhances the authentic rustic appearance of the cladding.
Q6: Can boards have waney edge on both sides?
Yes. Some boards may contain waney (live) edges on both sides, which adds to the natural, organic look of the finished wall.
Q7: What buildings is this cladding suitable for?
It is ideal for:
Houses and farmhouses
Garden rooms and summer houses
Sheds and workshops
Barns and garages
Feature walls and faades
Q8: How do I fix waney edge cladding?
Boards are typically fixed using exterior-grade stainless steel or galvanised screws or nails into timber battens. Pre-drilling is recommended to reduce splitting.
Q9: Can this be used indoors?
Yes. Waney edge larch boards can also be used for interior feature walls to achieve a rustic or industrial design.
Q10: How much coverage do I get per board?
Coverage depends on the exact width of each board. On average, you can calculate coverage using the nominal width of 150mm, allowing for natural variation during installation.
