Many water companies require an air gap in water storage tanks connected to the mains supply to prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the system. The air gap feature ensures the tank inlet does not become submerged, preventing contamination of the mains water supply.
This tank meets the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 in England and Wales, as well as the Scottish Water Byelaws 2004.
